We’ve just finished Urban Action. I have a fantastic feeling about what we did. The group at Urban Action managed to make a lot of actions in Copenhagen, and was rewarded with lots of smiles from everyone they met in Copenhagen.

Congratulations to us all. Ycity is ready with a new project in december. Ycity – Urban Action from the 4. – 6. of december in Copenhagen. Should you wish to participate we will be having a signup form ready within a week.

We applied for money trough Sirius once again, and once again we have received money. So a big thank you to Sirius.

You can now sign up to particapte in Ycity 2009 at this page. The deadline for sign up is 13th of July. If you have any ideas to projects/activities in Ycity 2009, you can also write your idea.

Youth in Action is EU’s youth programme and it aims to inspire a sense of active citizenship, solidarity and tolerance among young Europeans. Team Ycity is very pleased for this great contribution to make Ycity 2009 a reality:-)

Next Step is one of the partners in Ycity 2009. It’s a Swedish organisation working with youth and education on sustainable development, and they do workshops and lectures about suistainable development.

According to Jonas Eriksson, the leader of Next Step, we need to promote a sustainable development, that links ecology and economy. We are facing some big global challenges, and we need to think about, what we want to do with these challenges. What is the next step?

He thinks that Ycity is a great project, because it’s a free space for rethinking the future. You get the opportunity to link your personal engagement with a global perspective. And it’s not just about talking – you acutally have to do some concrete actions in Ycity.

Jonas Eriksson will take part in Ycity as a ressource person and will help linking the different projects in Ycity with each other and with a global perspective.

The schedule for the workshop is:

• 13.00-14.30: Intro, the concept for Ycity 2009, energizers, who are we? (a great guy, Isak Birkeskov, will be responsible for this part)
• 14.30-14.45: Break
• 14.45-15.30: The ideas for Ycity
• 15.30-16.15: Development of project ideas to Ycity 2009 (another great guy, Mikael H. Andersen, will be responsible for this part)
• 16.15-16.30: Break
• 16.30-17.30: Development of ideas, part II
• 17.30-18.00: Presentation of projects
• 18.00-?: Dinner and Ycity Party

The workshop will take place at “Projekthuset”:

The 2nd of May is your chance to hear more about Ycity, to develop your Ycity project among other participants and to have a fun day with lecture and concert at the Ycity Workshop in Copenhagen.

The workshop starts 1 pm and is a preparation for Ycity. Team Ycity will inform about the concept of Ycity and some practical information. Ycity will rise from the participants’ ideas and therefore the workshop will contain a ‘developing of dreams’ -workshop so we can make a picture of Ycity and buy the necessary materiel. The theme for the workshop is: What is the good city for you, and how can you make a change? Here is your chance to develope a project and combine your project with other Ycity citizens.

There will be a lecture about democracy and cities to challenge the traditional way of thinking democracy and cities and may give you some ideas for actions in Ycity and your local area.

At the end there will be a party and live music and it will not be boring!

The workshop will take place at a project center, Baunehøj, in Copenhagen (Enghavevej 80-82, 2450 Kbh. SV). There is S-train from Copenhagen central station to Enghave station.

Youth in Action supports youth projects with an European dimension. It aims to inspire a sense of active citizenship, solidarity and tolerance among young Europeans. Ycity 2009 applied Youth in Action, because the project’s objectives are to stimulate an active participation among youth and create transnational communities. 

The programme is divided into different actions, and Ycity applied the action for Youth Democracy Projects (action 1.3). Team Ycity handed in the application 1st of Februray and expects an answer in the middle of April.

Every youth can apply Youth in Action – both organizations and informal groups.  See the EU Commission’s Youth website and CIRIUS’ website about Youth in Action (the Danish Agency for Youth in Action).

Musicon in Roskilde is an area where there will be a creative part of Roskilde city. The idea is that everyone has the opportunity to develop Musicon by contribute with ideas e.g. Ycity.

Musicon is an industry area (250.00m²) brought by Roskilde municipality with the intention to develop is new city part. The area is mostly open areas where there used to be a concrete industry. Now there are only a lot of big old halls, with nothing inside. 

Right now only one hall is used permanent (a concert, café and skate hall) and the Musicon secretariat is located at the area too. The rest of the Musicon area is used for temporary activities, such as Ycity. Soon will Musicon hopefully contain a rock museum, a folk school and a growth house.

The idea behind Musicon is to develop the city part by letting actors and creative entrepreneurs do experimentation and temporary activities. Musicon will be reality through creative thinking and action taking and will be the way the actions takers make it. The main focus is music and eventually Musicon will contain a lot of different activities and more permanent functions involving experience economy, art and all kinds of creative actions.

Ycity and Musicon have a lot in common, and Ycity will locate in one of the halls at Musicon. The idea that a city (or a city part) occurs when the citizens gets to develop it them self is similar for both Musicon and Ycity, and so is the focus on creative developing.
