Ycity Productions

Ycity Productions is an empowerment inspired youth initiative, that seeks to empower 40 young people in a week. The project will take place in Thy in Denmark and the participants will be students from the local production school. In a week the project will empower the participants and inspire them to dream about the future; to make the gab between unemployment and employment smaller.

Ycity Productions takes place in a small village in Denmark, that has a high number of unemployed, who have small possibilities to have an education or find a job. The project starts with engaging the local society through different activities, that will make the local community aware of the problems that the young people are dealing with every day. Through an ordinary workweek the young people will be going through different fases that will empower them to search for jobs and educations.

The process is made with the following core elements; Dream it, build it and be it. The first fase “Dream it”, is about building the group and brainstorming on ideas for different projects that the participants would want to work with during the week. Fase two “Build it” focus on giving the participants the tools they need to develop their ideas through different workshops and different excercises. The last fase “Be it” focus on doing their projects, and engaging their projects with the local community. All the experiences from the project week will be promoted on a citizen summit, where the young people will meet citizens, city council members and other stake holders to share their experiences from the week. The output from the meeting and the projectweek will be used in an online community site that could be an inspiration for other organisations in the fight against unemployment.

Tools for Action

Team Ycity has launched a new magazine about action democracy. The magazine teels five stories about youth initiatives creating changes of society.

  • The Site Hut on "Blågårds Plads", where two young persons in a Summer month placed a site hut on a square in Copenhagen that created a free space for the local children.
  • Sorø Youth Council, an attempt to create a local participation possibility for youth.
  • The Middle East Expedition that created new forms of creative citizenships for youth in the Middle East.

Ycity '12

Ycity '12 was a space where young people from Lithuania, Romania and Denmark made changes together. A space based on the participants' dreams and personal participation. A space where they got new friends and tools for their actions.

Ycity '12 arose in Copenhagen 15 - 22 August and was divided into 3 phases:

  • The first phase established the city community and gave the participants tools to make changes.
  • The second phase created an impact in Copenhagen on the basis of the themes: Social Challenge, Urban Challenge and Climate Challenge.
  • The third phase had focus on how the participants could take the ideas from Ycity and take them home to their own city or local society.
